2007 Winter Expedition - 07-01-2007

Several Scouts from 3rd Sevenoaks Lambarde Scout Troop took part in a two day winter hike expedition over the weekend 6th - 7th Jan. Many of the Scouts, aged between 11 and 14, had their first experience of carrying packs and venturing out in such conditions.
Saturday saw them complete the first 12 mile leg, across the North Downs where they were subjected to a drenching by torrential rain. However, this did not dampen their spirits and they all managed to reach the welcome log fire and shelter at Tanners Hatch Youth Hostel.
After changing into dry clothes and eating the hearty meal that they prepared themselves, the Scouts spent the evening relaxing in front of the log fire and playing games.
The next day they set off on a 9 mile leg across the Surrey hills, finishing at Leigth Hill Tower.
All the Scouts displayed great courage and maturity during the expedition and not only carried all their own equipment and food but also planned and navigated the route by themselves with little intervention from the adult leaders (except when it came to lights out and settling down to sleep!).
