Merstham Mines caving Expedition - 22-11-2008
On 22nd November 2008 members of Lambarde Scout troop embarked on a caving expedition into Merstham Mines in Surrey. These cave offer a fantastic and safe opportunity for the Scouts to experience real caving. They were cut under the North Downs hundreds of years ago to quarry firestone and stretch for several miles. Because they are not wet or cut by underground rivers, the chances of flash flooding is nil As you can see form the photos, everyone had a great time. Expeditions into these mines form a regular theme in our troop program.
