Not quite April Fools Day Night Hike - 30-03-2007

On 30th March 2007 the Troop took part in a sponsored night hike around Sevenoaks district. The troop set off from the HQ in very wet conditions (as usual) and hiked to Otford HQ and then up across the North Downs to Kemsing. Those Scouts not hiking over night were picked up, whilst the rest plodded on towards Seal. The weather cleared and as we crossed Knole Park it became quite clear and fresh. By now a few of the Scouts had reached their limit and were take back to the HQ and their sleeping bags. The rest of us carried on down into Weald where we took a well earned break at outside their HQ at about 2 in the morning.

Only the hardy ( or fool hardy) set off across the open countryside to Ide Hill. There was some tricky navigation through the woods and open farm land but eventually we came a across some help ,

The surviving members then set off on the last leg back to Riverhead and their waiting sleeping bags. They completed the 20 mile route arriving back at the HQ at 5:15 in the morning.

Well done to all those that took part and helped raise money but a special well done to John (this is easy), Alex, Adam , Alex and Sarah for completing the full route.

Initial counting suggests that we have managed to raise over £1000 pounds towards Comic Relief so a big pat on the back for all. We hope to make this an annual fund raising event.
