Survival Challenge 24 hours

Ten Scouts from Lambarde troop took part in a 24hour survival challenge. After arriving on Friday evening, the whole Troop took part in building survival shelters and had some tuition in survival skills. Those staying overnight had to put what they had learnt to the test as they settled down for the night in their shelters. Fortunatly, it was a dry night with just a slash of rain (something out of the ordinary for Lambarde Scouts) with the Scouts rising with the sun after a cold night. All survived the first leg of the challenge and they set about cooking breakfast, which was beans, bacon and egg, cooked in an orange skin on the fire. To obtaine their survival badge, the Scouts had to prepare all their food over open fires without the use on cooking pots or tin foil. The morning was spent making good the survival area, digging fire pits for the Fiji ovens and making survival gadgets.

Maddie is presented with her first night away badge from her brother (she is only five)

The Scouts then cooked Chicken, baked potatoes and sweetcorn, all wrapped in leafs and baked in a Fiji oven, followed by sponge cakes made in banana skins.
