The 3rd Sevenoaks Scout Group joined more than 1,000 Sevenoaks area Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and adult volunteers for a district-wide camp, badged 'Mag7', in Cudham at the endof April 2023.
Our youngsters took part in activities as diverse as climbing, laser tag, archery, tomahawk throwing, fire lighting, backwoods cooking, African drumming, catapults, quad biking and plastic bottle rocket launching.
Scouts and Explorers even went off-site for watersports and everyone danced the night away to a silent disco as well as learning 'The Mag7 Shuffle' dance routine to the Lion King theme song "I can't wait to be King".
King Charles III's county representative, The Lord Lieutenant of Kent Lady Colgraine, came along to present District Commissioner and camp organiser Jo Brookbank, with a British Empire Medal for services to young people, particularly during Covid-19 awarded in the Honours list marking HM The Queen's Jubilee year.
Scouting stalwarts Rose Mears and Nigel Rainey were awarded one of the highest accolades in Scouting, the Silver Acorn. The following Scout leaders were also recognised during the camp with Awards for Merit: Michael Dreksler, Jo Brookbank, Nick Roberts, Sheila Burgin, Anthony Hitchings, Alison Miller, Mark Wittock and Jonathan Booth.
